Progress

Hans had a meeting with Dr. Ong at UP this afternoon. Since the joint project with Dr. Ong and the Philippine Eagle Foundation fell through we weren't sure what was going to happen. To make a long story very short, Dr. Ong had a very interesting project that could benefit from Hans' contributions and was well-matched to Hans' interests. I'll let Hans share the details of the actual research study, but I can assure you we are all breathing easier knowing that Hans' professional interests will still be met while we are here.

It was a good day for Jordan too. We all spent the day as tourists in Manila, exploring "intermuros" - the walled city left over from the days the Spanish ruled the islands. Forts and canons are always popular with young boys so it was a good first outing and a good start to our exploration of Philippine history and culture. We did the horse-drawn carriage tour and everything. Not my top choice of ways to "experience the Philippines", but like I said, it was just a simple first step. Here are a few shots to give you a glimpse of the sights. Jordan will blog more about it tomorrow so you can check his blog for his perspective.

And the fun didn't stop there, Jordan managed to squeeze in a play date too. While Hans was at UP, Jordan and I went to the Angangco's where Jordan played basketball with Glad and Pepi (Pengie's boys, age 11 and 8). It was clear that Jordan enjoyed some time to just be a kid with other kids. And, for our part, we were pleased to see these "cousins" getting better acquainted. But wait, there's more. When we came home Jordan found two emails and one new comment to his blog. So he went to bed a very happy boy - dog-tired, but very happy!

A couple of worries checked off the list today...will work on a few more tomorrow!

And the adventure continues...
Loved to hear about what was going on. Can't wait to hear about your driving experiences in Manila and how Jordan enjoys living in another country. I'll check out his blog too. Best,

Tricia and Molly

Hi, Carolyn, Hans and Jordan -
I'm now able to connect to the Tropical Landel blog. Thanks, Carolyn!

I love the updates and the photos. Thanks for sharing it all.

I know there is another big world out there with such variety; it is great to have someone I know share it with me.

Take care, Gayle
