Since many who are following our adventures haven't been in the loop on all the details, I thought it might be useful to post a few of them here.
Hans will be on sabbatical for Fall and Winter quarter. He has arranged to work with the Philippine Eagle Foundation. National Geographic ran a nice story on the Philippine Eagle - complete with their usual amazing photographs - you might want to check out. Hans will have to fill you in on the real details of his research, but in the simplest sense he will be working with a team based in Luzon to look for evidence of Philippine Eagles in a watershed area just outside of Manila to evaluate the extent to which this site would be suitable for releasing birds from the foundation's captive breading program.
As for me, I'll be working just 2 days week and focused largely on writing up results and findings from my work at WWU over the last five years. I'll be spending the rest of my time pursing adventures with Jordan as we explore our new surroundings.
For our whole family, this trip is our chance to really immerse ourselves in Philippine culture and surroundings. We have family and family friends throughout Luzon who we look forward to spending time with. We have already been warmly welcomed through many many emails and Hans has been well cared for since his arrival - the hospitality has shown no bounds!
Jordan was advised by Aunt Grace and Aunt Jube to take careful notes during his conversations with all of Lola's friends and family as he learns about all the mischief Lola got into - and got her friends into - during her youth! (FYI: "Lola" is Hans' mother and she is from the Philipines). He is sure he will learn some new tricks - and be able to tease Lola a bit more too.

The next few months sound like they will be AMAZING! What a great opportunity! Have a wonderful time and I will look forward to checking your blog every now and then for updates!
Hugs,
Rhian
Thanks Rhian! What a treat to hear from you. We are certainly off for our adventures - but you are the one entering MOTHERHOOD...the grandest adventure of them all. Though the exotic tropic location for our trip is certainly a draw, what I am most looking forward to is the extended time with Jordan. Hope you get to enjoy some extended time with your little bambino as well!
